As promised, quite some time ago now, this is the updated alignment chart for races in Stargate. The big difference is how the Nox are classified: originally I thought of them as true neutral, but it was pointed out that they really are good (if neutral / pacifist). Moving them across suddenly made space for an important race that I’d not classified: the ascended Gate Builders themselves, the only race who are utterly bound by the rule of non-interference.

Thanks for the feedback that brought that particular aspect to life!

Strong Bad After talking about fan fiction on the podcast this week, I couldn’t help but post a link to the latest Strong Bad Email talking about fan clubs which gets derailed part way through to talk about the terrifying combination of the words “fan” and “fiction”. Awesome! (and the email wasn’t anything to do with me, either!)

As promised, here are the links to the 2 writing competitions mentioned in the latest “Gate Buzz” podcast:

Script Frenzy National Novel Writing Month

It’s amazing what getting together with other people can do to boost creativity, and the goal in each case really does focus the mind!

I’ve seen a HUGE spike in the number of visitors arriving at the site, and downloading the podcast since CME officially named me fan-site of the week. We’re talking 5-10 times the normal number of visitors. Its wonderful exposure and I’m very grateful for all of the comments that have been sent in to me via email.

I’m close to the limits of outgoing bandwidth for the site right now (thanks CME for the exposure!). I’ve archived episodes 1 - 6 of the podcast for the moment and left the latest episodes available. Old episodes will come back, I just need to conserve bandwidth for a few days! I have to say, what a wonderful problem to have! :-)

A shorter episode this week as we pass the important “double digit milestone”. I’ve been thinking a lot this week about why some podcasts and blogs fade out and others go the distance, and it resulted in something akin to a “State of the Union” address on the podcast, looking back and looking forward to the release of the game. Also covered are some thoughts about the recent IGN interview given by Chris Klug, Dan Elggren and others.

Dan Elggren and Chris Klug spoke with IGN recently:

Stargate Worlds Explored

Cheyenne Mountain tells us just about all there is to know about their upcoming MMOG.

It’s a powerful idea for a game, especially an MMO - an entire fictional universe built around the concept of shimmering circular portals that can lead anywhere. After 10 seasons of Stargate SG-1, there’s certainly no lack of material for Cheyenne Mountain to work with when converting the fiction to the MMO space.

The interview sparked a very healthy and lively discussion over on the main Stargate Worlds forums.

Covering (for the most part) the recent interview that Rod Nakamoto gave to Gamespot, with my own thoughts on whether Star Trek Online is likely to be any competitor to Stargate Worlds, locations I would love to visit in-game, thoughts about the cost of the game subscription (and whether a “lifetime subscription” model makes any sense) and of course, thoughts surrounding the beta of the game.

Thanks also to Vlad Cole for digging up interesting forum posts, and information about how to pre-order “Ark of Truth” from Amazon.com.
