What is Script Frenzy?
Script Frenzy is an international writing event where you attempt the (somewhat insane) feat of writing a 100 page screen or stage play script in a single month. The site says,
Spurred by a wild deadline and buoyed by a community of countless other writers, Script Frenzy participants can’t be bothered with self-doubt—or editing. They’re too busy writing by the seat of their pants, typing out beautiful, flawed stories that no one else could have dreamt up.
There’s absolutely no entry fee and there are also no prizes awarded or “best” scripts singled out. Every writer who completes the goal of 100 pages is declared “victorious” and will get a Script Frenzy Winner’s Certificate and web icon proclaiming this fact. Even those who fall short of the word goal will be applauded for making a heroic attempt. Really, you have nothing to lose except that nagging feeling that there’s a script inside you that may never get out.
The 5 Basic Rules of Script Frenzy
- To be crowned an official Script Frenzy winner, you must write a script (or multiple scripts) of at least 100 total pages and verify this tally on ScriptFrenzy.org.
- You may write individually or in teams of two. Writer teams will have a 100-page total goal for their co-written script or scripts.
- Script writing may begin no earlier than 12:00:01 AM on April 1 and must cease no later than 11:59:59 PM on April 30, local time.
- You may write screenplays, stage plays, TV shows, short films, comic book scripts, adaptations of novels, or any other type of script your heart desires.
- You must, at some point, have ridiculous amounts of fun.

Script Frenzy and Gatebuzz
I participated in Script Frenzy last year and had a blast. I wrote a historical action/horror screenplay somewhat like “Gladiator” meets “Blade“. Real life intervened part way through the month and I came up short on page-count - only managed about 44 pages in total - but it was a lot of fun!
The ScriptFrenzy.org site suggests a couple of ideas to prepare you:
- Send away for a clone. Use your clone as cover at work so that you - the original you - can write unfettered during April.
- Stock your house with coffee, coffee, and coffee!
If you want to participate, jump on over to ScriptFrenzy.org and sign up. Then let me know and I’ll link your profile here on the site in one of two groups: “Stargate Themed” and “Non-Stargate”. I will be happy to archive the finished results (as in, the story finished, even if the page-count falls short) here on the site for the Stargate Themed stories.
